Address Verification and Geolocation Tools for Building in Africa
Most of Africa lacks standardized postal codes. This guide covers the verified APIs, MCP servers, and datasets developers can use to capture customer locations, verify addresses, and work with administrative boundaries.

Street addresses in large parts of Africa are informal, incomplete, or absent. A customer in Lagos may give you an estate name and a junction. A user in Accra may share a compound name in a district with no postcode. A delivery driver in Nairobi may navigate entirely by spoken landmarks.
This matters the moment you build anything that touches physical location: KYC, last-mile delivery, insurance, lending, or e-commerce. The tools below are the verified options in the Wycord registry for solving each layer of the problem.
Customer Address Capture and Verification: OkHi
OkHi solves the hardest part: getting a customer to create a verifiable, GPS-anchored address that reflects where they actually live or work.
The flow works in three stages. First, the customer opens OkHi's guided screen, drops a GPS pin on a map, and adds text directions. Second, OkHi registers a geofence on the device. The operating system then sends the platform notifications each time the customer enters or exits that area. Third, machine learning models analyze the behavioral signal. Verification takes a minimum of 1.5 days and up to 8 days depending on how much movement data is collected. Results arrive at your backend via webhook.
SDKs are available for Android (Kotlin), iOS, React Native, Flutter, and Expo. A JavaScript snippet and a WooCommerce plugin handle address collection on the web, but the verification step requires a mobile client because the geofence runs on-device.
OkHi operates in Kenya and Nigeria. If you need programmatic proof-of-address for KYC or delivery in either country, it is the only API-grade tool in the registry built specifically for this use case.

Ghana's National Digital Addressing System: GhanaPostGPS MCP
Ghana has a national digital address system that assigns every location in the country a structured GPS code in the format XX-YYY-ZZZZ:
- XX: two-letter region code (GA for Greater Accra, AK for Ashanti)
- YYY: three-digit area code
- ZZZZ: three to four-digit location code
The GhanaPostGPS MCP server connects this system to any MCP-compatible client. It exposes four tools:
- lookup_gps_address: Resolves a code like
GA-554-3608into coordinates, street name, district, and region. - validate_gps_code: Checks whether a string matches the correct Ghana Post GPS format before you hit the lookup.
- batch_lookup_gps: Processes up to 10 codes in one request.
- find_nearby_coordinates: Generates coordinate points within a specified radius of a known location.
If your product collects Ghana Post GPS codes from users, this server handles the resolution without requiring you to build your own Ghana Post API integration. It is free and open source.

Nigerian Administrative Boundaries
For products that need to work with Nigeria's internal geography, Wycord publishes two MCP servers backed by GRID3 data. Both run offline and require no API key or signup.
Nigeria Admin Boundaries MCP
Exposes boundary polygons at state, LGA, and ward level. Two tools:
- get_boundary: Returns the polygon, centroid, and bounding box for a named state, LGA, or ward.
- point_in_admin: Takes a WGS84 latitude/longitude point and returns every administrative unit that contains it.

Nigeria Admin Divisions MCP
For simpler structure lookups without boundary polygons. Lists Nigeria's 36 states plus the FCT, and retrieves all 774 LGAs for any given state. The full dataset is bundled inside the package so every query is instant and offline.
- list_states: Returns all states with their codes.
- get_lgas: Returns all LGAs for a named state.

The underlying GIS files are also available as standalone datasets for download: LGA boundary polygons at lga-boundaries-grid3 and ward polygons at ward-boundaries-grid3.
Open Geographic Datasets
When you need raw data for analytics, coverage modeling, or training a location-aware feature, four datasets in the registry cover the continent's main markets.
GRID3 Nigeria Settlement Extents v4.0: Maps Nigerian settlements with building counts, heights, and vegetation metrics. Useful for delivery coverage models and density analysis. https://wycord.com/resource/grid3-nigeria-settlement-extents-v40
Kenya Subnational Administrative Boundaries (OCHA COD): Official government-backed boundary files from national level down through counties, sub-counties, and wards. Available as Shapefiles via the UN Humanitarian Data Exchange, free to download. https://wycord.com/resource/kenya-subnational-administrative-boundaries-ocha-cod
Africapolis Urban Agglomerations (OECD/SWAC): A standardized geospatial database of urban agglomerations across all 54 African countries, built from censuses, electoral registers, and satellite imagery. Includes polygon boundaries with population and built-up-area metrics for 2015 and 2020. Published under CC BY 4.0. https://wycord.com/resource/africapolis-urban-agglomerations-oecdswac
Google Open Buildings (Africa): Pan-African building footprint dataset derived from satellite imagery. Useful for last-mile route planning and understanding the density of built environments in areas where street-level data is sparse. https://wycord.com/resource/google-open-buildings-africa
