Building for Egypt: the verified developer stack
The Wycord registry indexes 9 resources for Egypt covering payments, agentic workflows, identity validation, geospatial data, and Arabic-language AI. This is the full map.
egypt
Egypt is the largest Arabic-speaking country in Africa and one of the most active fintech markets on the continent. The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) licenses payment gateways operating locally, Arabic and bilingual (Arabic/English) UX is a practical requirement rather than optional, and Egypt's 27 governorates form a geospatial structure that maps onto most address and logistics problems.
The Wycord registry indexes 9 resources for Egypt: five payment APIs, an MCP server for agentic payment workflows, an Arabic-first AI platform, and two open-source developer utilities for identity and geospatial data. This guide maps the full stack.
Payments
A dedicated guide with a deeper comparison lives at wycord.com/best/apis-in-egypt. The five APIs in the registry:
-
Fawry: Egypt's largest e-payments platform, incorporated 2008, listed on the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) as FWRY. Its FawryPay API is the only option here with a cash-at-kiosk channel: a customer receives a reference number at checkout and pays at any Fawry retail location, no card or bank account required. Also supports cards, Meeza (Egypt's domestic card scheme), e-wallets, and installments.
-
Paymob: Founded 2015, backed by PayPal Ventures and the EBRD, serving over 350,000 merchants across Egypt, the Gulf, and Pakistan. Cards and digital wallets via an Intention API and Payment API. Choose Paymob when you need one integration to cover Egypt and Gulf markets simultaneously.
-
Kashier: PCI DSS Level 1 certified. Supports cards, Apple Pay, mobile wallets, bank QR transfers, and installments, with a marketplace connected-accounts feature for split payments. Three integration modes: direct REST API, hosted page, or iFrame embed.
-
MasrPay: CBE-licensed gateway with documented REST endpoints for token generation, payment initiation, and status queries. Community-submitted and pending full verification; confirm licensing requirements with the provider before production use.
-
XPay: Verified October 2026, XPay is built around Stripe-shaped resources: Checkout Sessions, Payment Intents, Charges, and Refunds. It accepts Visa, Mastercard, Valu, and Fawry. Tooling includes JavaScript and React SDKs, 3D Secure 2, webhook replay, per-request API logs, and a test environment with card simulation. The hosted checkout is bilingual (Arabic/English) and mobile-first. If you already know Stripe's API, XPay is the shortest path to a working Egypt integration.
Agentic payment workflows
Fawaterak MCP Server is a free, open-source MCP server wrapping the Fawaterak payment aggregator. It exposes eight tools covering invoice creation, payment method management, status queries, and refunds across Fawry, digital wallets, and Meeza. Install via npm:
npm install @theyahia/fawaterak-mcp
Use this when building a conversational commerce agent or AI workflow that needs to trigger Egyptian payment operations without writing a custom API client. It is the only MCP server in the registry covering Egyptian payment infrastructure.
Identity and KYC
Egypt's 14-digit national ID encodes the holder's birth date, governorate of birth, and gender. Egyptian-ID-Validator-Py is a Python library that validates the format and extracts those fields. Install:
pip install egyptian-id-validator
Compatible with Python 3.8 and above, version 0.4.4, production-ready. Use it at registration or KYC intake to reject malformed IDs before sending a request downstream to a verification API or government system. The library checks format, validates the governorate code against the official list, and returns parsed components.
For full biometric identity verification against national records, access goes through CBE-contracted providers or direct institutional agreements. The payment APIs on this list handle identity verification as part of their merchant onboarding, not as standalone endpoints.
Geospatial and administrative data
subdivisions-of-egypt is a free npm package containing all 27 Egyptian governorates and their cities in both Arabic and English. Helper functions include getGovernorates, getGovernoratesWithSubregions, and getSubregions. Install:
npm install subdivisions-of-egypt
Use it to populate address form dropdowns, validate user-submitted location input, or seed fixtures with Egyptian geographic coverage. The bilingual data means a single package handles both Arabic-language and English-language product surfaces.
Arabic-language AI agents
WideBot is an Egyptian AI platform built on AQL, its proprietary Arabic large language model. The platform offers chatbots, voicebots, AI agents, digital avatars, and document processing (OCR and text extraction) with omnichannel deployment across WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, SMS, email, and live chat. Deployment options cover cloud, hybrid, and on-premises. Enterprise pricing with approval-based access.
The integration point for product teams: WideBot provides Arabic-native intent classification, sentiment analysis, and agent capabilities without requiring a custom Arabic NLP pipeline. For products that must handle Egyptian Arabic dialect in production, it is the only agent platform indexed in the registry with explicit Arabic-first LLM backing.
